Can you share this in the Poodle world? Other immune mediated disease research too - Standard poodle people in particular please take note: Dr. Neils Pedersen has announced the availability of a DNA test which produces a genetic profile indicating how inbred (and where in the genome) a dog is (similar to COI, but based on DNA) including both class I and class II DLA analysis. The science is here : vgl.ucdavis.edu/…/dog/GeneticDiversityInStandardPoodles… The laymans explanation is here : Dr. Pedersen is a specialist in the genetics of the immune system (DLA in dogs); rather than looking for individual disease genes, he has tackled (as did Dr. Kennedy) what goes wrong in the immune system as a whole, which ultimately results in immu ne-mediated disease. (Rather like unloading the gun, rather than trying to stop the trigger from being pulled.) His research is promising and he has just received an additional grant from PCAFoundation to continue. He still needs DNA from Standard Poodles with *documented* immune-mediated disease of any type. He is also looking for DNA from older SPs which have no known immune -mediated disease in their immediate family.
