Can you weigh in on this experience...? One of the reasons I left my last teacher was because I began to doubt that the process of awakening had to be so painful. And I have a high tolerance for pain - this went on for more than a year. I gained unspeakable gems from the process - I wouldnt give it back for anything. But because it worked, I have often questioned whether the pain was necessary. My friend, Paul, shared with me that in his experience, a true guru anesthetizes the pain with love and compassion - so while youre undergoing the loss of your false self, you dont feel a thing. What do you think? Have you had an experience with a painful teacher? Or with the overwhelming love and compassion, so it didnt hurt?
