Canacona: The ‘backward tag’ fits On various counts the ‘backward tag’ fits Canacona to a T. One literally crying example is the fact that we Canaconkars still have to depend on the often scorned, condemned and much indicted leaders Churchill Alemao and Micky Pacheco for the great service of a much needed morgue -- at least for the catholic community here. So when large-hearted Melvyn Jones Fellow Lion Motilal Vernekar took the initiative to provide a morgue for Canacona under the banner of Lions Club of Canacona many Lions contributed generously. At the 33rd installation ceremony of Lions Club of Canacona held on 13 January 2013 at 7.45 p.m. at the Molyma Resorts Rajbag where the Hon’ble Sports Minister Mr Ramesh Tawadkar was the Chief Guest, MJF Lion Motilal Vernekar publicly exhorted the Sports and Tribal Welfare Minster to announce his contribution for the morgue. Mr Tawadkar played dumb and deaf and stuck to his chair without a word. Perhaps if he had committed a small sum then it would have inspired many others. All the same Canacona will certainly get a morgue very soon.
