Canada : January 2, 2015, 6:21 AM - The Weather Network remains in Storm Watch coast to coast, as snow, rain and strong winds hit the country. Heres what you need to know for Friday, January 2 and beyond. Atlantic Canada Bundle up. Temperatures will be dropping once again in advance of this weekends storm. Newfoundland: Scattered flurries expected to continue for the island. Up to 5 cm possible in St. Johns, with higher amounts along the western edge of the province. Drop in temperatures from Friday into Saturday in advance of the next system. Maritimes: Scattered sea effect flurries will continue for some areas. Temperatures will significantly drop Saturday ahead of a major storm on Sunday. Most areas will see an initial burst of snow followed by a changeover to ice pellets and freezing rain, said Weather Network Chief Meteorolgist Chris Scott. SEE ALSO: Storm threat for the first weekend of 2015 Ontario Special weather statement issued ahead of weekend storm. Southern Ontario: Lake effect snow to continue across some areas Friday. Snow squall watches in effect for regions southeast of Georgian Bay (including Barrie). Greatest concern will be around Owen Sound (and the Bruce Pen. in general) where squalls could persist through the Friday morning commute. Meanwhile, forecasters continue to keep a close eye on a developing system pushing into the region on Saturday. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement, which includes the city of Toronto, ahead of the storm. Northern Ontario: Snow squalls continue to develop off Lake Superior. Areas around the shores could see an additional 10-15 cm Friday. Additional snow is forecast for parts northern Ontario throughout the afternoon on Saturday, with the heaviest amounts falling just north of the main storm track. Major cities such as Thunder Bay,Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury are on tap to receive significant snow and wind, although the amounts have yet to be finalized. Be sure to frequently check back for updates. Western Canada A deepening low in the Gulf of Alaska will ride the ridge currently in place over the West Coast and track into Northern British Columbia bringing heavy precipitation to the coast and interior. This coastal system will trigger cyclogenesis (formation of a low pressure system) in the lee of the Rockies resulting in an Alberta Clipper which will bring snow to Alberta, Saskatchewan and potentially southern Manitoba. RELATED: Clipper blows through the Prairies bringing possible blizzard conditions B.C.: System will impact the province through Saturday morning. Prince George: 15 cm of snow; Fort St. John: 30+ cm; The Rockies: 40+ cm. The northern part of the province is under watches and warnings for snow and freezing rain. Alberta: System will impact province through Saturday morning, peaking pre-dawn through the morning on Friday. Grande Prairie: 30+ cm; Edmonton: 10-20 cm; Calgary: 5-10 cm; Lethbridge: 5-10 cm; Medicine Hat: 2-5cm. Saskatchewan: Central & Southern Saskatchewan to be impacted Friday morning through Saturday. About 5-10 cm possible for Saskatoon and Regina. Manitoba: System will push into southern Manitoba Friday night through Saturday. There is significant uncertainty in snowfall amounts due model track discrepancy at the moment, but considerable snowfall is possible. Check back frequently for updates.
