Newspapers North Shore News Prince George Citizen Vancouver Sun Vancouver Province Victoria Times-Colonist Dear Madam, dear Sir, Canadas only grizzly bear sanctuary is being proposed as an LNG pipeline corridor. The Great Bear Rainforest is frought with a number of proposals to carry crude oil and liquefied natural gas by supertanker through its pristine waters. Much research and evidence show that the risks are simply too great. Not only do these proposals threaten a pristine marine ecosystem, home to some of the rarest species on earth, but they also threaten the livelihoods, economies and cultures of Northern and Coastal British Columbians. Premier Christy Clark’s plan to massively export LNG from B.C.’s north coast is bad news. From the highly toxic fracking process used to extract natural gas, to the extremely energy intensive liquefaction process needed to load natural gas onto tankers, this process is risky to the health of British Columbians themselves, their environment and their economy. We know that the B.C. government plans to export Liquefied Natural Gas overseas. What many dont know is that there is now a proposal to build a pipeline corridor through Canadas only grizzly bear sanctuary and neighbouring parks. Not only will this lead to the industrialization of this internationally renowned Khutzeymateen/Kwinimass area, but it will also lead to countless super tankers full of toxic LNG through the pristine waters of the Great Bear Rainforest. These pristine wateres, ecosystems, whales and other marine life are at further risk. Due to public pressure, two LNG pipelines to be built by Spectra and TransCanada Corp on behalf of Malaysian energy giant Petronas, will no longer be passing through the Khutzeymateen/Kwinimass area. However, this has NOT BEEN 100% confirmed. Therefore I ask you steer clear of these bear sanctuaries and Great Bear Rainforest. Sincerely,
