Canada’s Continued Job Growth Today, after the OECD projected Canada to lead the G-7 in economic growth for 2013 and the World Economic Form ranked Canada’s financial system as the safest and soundest in the world for a sixth year in a row, Statistics Canada announced that +59,200 net new jobs were created in August. The unemployment rate fell -0.1% to a near post-recession low of 7.1%. Our Conservative government is focused on what matters to Canadians – growing the economy and helping create jobs. Canada’s overall job growth record since the depth of the global recession is the best among all G-7 countries with over 1 million net new jobs created (close to 90% full-time and over 80% in the private sector). Despite this positive economic news, Canada is not immune to the challenges beyond our borders. The global economy remains fragile – especially in the US and Europe, both among our largest trading partners. That is why our Conservative government is working hard to implement positive job-creating measures from Economic Action Plan 2013, such as: tax breaks to help small business create more jobs, the Canada Job Grant to help get more Canadians trained and into skilled jobs, the largest ever federal investment in job-creating infrastructure, new tax relief to help our manufacturing sector grow, and much more. While we are focused on creating jobs, Justin Trudeau has admitted he doesn’t have any economic policies and Mulcair’s NDP continues to push a $21 billion carbon tax that would hurt Canada’s economy and kill Canadian jobs.
