Canada’s Statue of Liberty “Built in 1758, Sambro Island - TopicsExpress

Canada’s Statue of Liberty “Built in 1758, Sambro Island Lighthouse has withstood the elements of the harsh Atlantic for over 250 years. It is the oldest operating lighthouse in the Americas. Throughout time the lighthouse became a figure of hope to many Canadians. To thousands of immigrants it was the first image of their new homeland. It also was a farewell beacon and a greeting haven to Canadian soldiers during WWI and WWII. For centuries, the lighthouse not only has been a navigational aid that guided mariners and fishermen to safety, it has also been a silent witness to shipwrecks, sea battles and many seafarers ill-fated watery demise. Perched proudly upon Outer Sambro Island, she has become a towering memorial to those who have perished at sea and a shining tribute to those who have both fought for and helped build Canada! With her red and white stripes, Sambro Island Lighthouse patriotically continues to emit light on our country’s heritage…but for how long?” Please tell Canada you care about our culture and our history.
