Canadian Archives Summit underway today in Toronto - Honorary Chair: Thomas H.B. Symons: Thomas H.B. Symons, Trent Universitys Founding President, is Honorary Chair of the Canadian Archives Summit, a national discussion underway today about the future of the archives system. Professor Symons was Chair of the Commission on Canadian Studies from 1972 to 1984 and introduced a chapter on Archives in the Commission’s landmark publication, To Know Ourselves: The Report of the Commission on Canadian Studies (1975). He played a pivotal role in bringing about new directions and unprecedented vigor to Canadian Studies in Canada and abroad. Canadian archivists, in particular, responded with enthusiasm to the Commission report and set about revitalizing the entire Canadian archival system. Within a very short time, the Association of Canadian Archivists was founded, and the first issue of Canadian archives journal, Archivaria, was published. archivists.ca/content/canadian-archives-summit
