Canadian Maritimes “Youth Ambassador” Voyage Day 3 Aboard Spirit of Bermuda – Friday, August 22nd, 2014 At 1430 today, Spirit was at 34° 36’ North and 063° 29’ West. Captain has had the trainees steering a course between 040°M and 050°M, to put the ship in good stead in anticipation of northeasterly winds they’re due to encounter soon. In the words of le chef… We have now been on the ship for 24 hours and have completed our first full day at sea. The sailing has been fantastic so far! We’re moving at a steady speed of 9 knots and peaking at 11.6 knots; and if you must ask, le chef holds the record so far for that one :-)! (Ms. Dill’s editor’s note: Le chef is referring to holding a “record” for steering the ship well enough for the ship to move at its the fastest.) All our youth sailors have been up and down the last 24 hours with sea sickness. Most of them are turning around this evening and have managed to eat and keep it down. Weve been hit with a few bands of liquid sunshine, but for the most part the weather has been pleasant. As I type, the sun is setting to our left, and it’s heart-warming to hear the conversations taking place on deck! Funny where our conversations can lead when we’re making do with very little artificial entertainment – i.e. no electronics. You should be proud of your sons/daughters; they’re all doing great!
