Canadians are proud but were sorry,CNN. As we prepare for our National holiday, I thought it fitting to reflect on all things too, about being Canadian. I have done research on this about how others see us Canucks in countries, as we are a shy lot, not so quick nor desirous to toot our own horn. What better spot than CNN, a mega global news agency run by our friends south of the 49th. The network recently posted a Top 10 list of things perceives Canada does best. Counting back to the top, it suggests our cute little phrses & terms are adorable: Things such as a case of beer being aTwo-four or a napkin a serviette and, of course hoser. Next,CNN saysour road grub is among the best selection in the world. Certainly Canadian drivers enjoy diners,drive-throughs & delicatessens & everything from Swiss Chalet to Harveys, to fish & chips and food trucks, and of course, a double-double at Timmys, mine being milk only. Our national brand - the Maple Leaf - is next & we are proud of that. It tells the world a Canadian story and, CNN suggests, the best thing about it globally is it tells people you are not American or German. Ouch! Among the other superlatives: our natural beauty, pristine mountain countryside & outdoor recreational activities, and our chocolate because its fat content makes it creamily delicious.(Not for me, though). Leading up to the thing that we do better than most:Comedy, politcial or otherwise our sense of humour & litany of world-famous funny people.(Got a few on my FB page but no names :P ).And that we dont take ourselves too seriously unless its the Federal Government doing all the wrong things. Our fresh air, clean water, rivers, and abundance of lakes (110 thousand lakes in the province of Ontario alone).and big sky vistaa; and our ability to host a film shhot & make it look like almost anywhere else on the planet or galaxy near you. And finally, what does the crack research staff at CNN think we Canadians do better than anyone? Apologize. Well, that is a stereotypical view of things, of course, but not entirely untrue & there are worse things for which to be known. So, we apologize if you did not enjoy this column & apoligize to CNN if we quoted anything out of context, but am one to speak my mind while I still have one, lol. So enjoy being Canadian this week, and every week, because am showing off my Custom Stormtrooper hotrod truck at Napanee Valley Crusiers on July 1st.
