Canberra put on a perfect summer evening for tonight’s Australian Of The Year awards. Congratulations and thanks to all the inspiring and talented ACT finalists. We are proud of you. This year’s Australian Of The Year is Victorian domestic violence campaigner Rosie Batty who lost her son, 11 year old Luke, at the hands of his father in a public assault. There was not a dry eye on the Parliament House forecourt after her speech, which received a standing ovation. Only minutes after receiving her award, Young Australian Of The Year and Western Australian deaf advocate Drisana Levitzke-Gray also had everyone speaking Auslan. And go sisters! Women won every category.
