Candace and I just attended the funeral visitation for my cousin Leland Barnett (a couple of times removed) at Crossett First Baptist Church. Leland attended the original Stamps School of Music for several years as a young man and was the pianist for his family quartet many years ago that consisted of his Daddy, Mother, two brothers, and himself. One of the sweetest things that was said of him was told to me tonight by his widow. She said that just within in the past week as he was struggling with the heart disease that took his life, he called her to his bedside and said Curtis (Doss) needs to scoot over and let me play for a little while. Curtis was also a distant relative of mine and Lelands and was of course one of the best pianists gospel music has ever kinown as well as having been a noted and prolific song composer. Im sure they are having a wonderful time tonight playing for Heavens Choir.
