Canfield & Chaney High School Play Guess whos on the trailer and headed to Hollywood to be in the next Fast n Furious movie!? See this Idora Park Hooterville Highway car...well, if you guessed this car... ...youre wrong! I have no idea who or what is going to be in the next movie...if theres even going to be one. Ive never seen any of those Fast n Furious movies. But, a few days ago I received a call from Canfield High Schools Drama Club... They heard that The Idora Park Experience has a Hooterville Highway car, and if so...would I consider loaning it to Canfield High School and Chaney High School to be used in a play? Well, no...The Idora Park Experience does NOT own a Hooterville Highway car, but our friend Mike Pacak does. Mike loans the car to The Idora Park Experience when we open for visitors. I called Mike about Canfields request and he was all for it! It seems the two high schools are going to perform a play together, centered on the turn of the century... Im guessing theyre talking about the turn of the 19th Century to the 20th Century... ...wouldnt that be somewhere around 1899 to 1900? Well, Henry Ford introduced the Model T from 1908 to 1927.... So, I guess if you s t r e t c h the century a little bit...by about at least 8 years, then I guess the Hooterville Highway car will fit-in in the turn of the century. Some of you may argue that the earliest Model T of 1908 just does not fit the definition of Turn of the Century. But it does! Of course, youll need to use the Voltaric Method of Extrapolating...etc, etc, etc (dont you hate it when people write ect instead of etc for etcetera? Bothers the heck out of me.) Anyway, what was I...oh yeah, the Voltaric Method is like a warp drive for making things fit. Go ahead, look it up and try it...youll need to cross your legs like a girl, sip champagne with your nose in the air, wave a white flag, and sit on an acorn, etc.... After all, it is in French. I mentioned that Lenny Cavalier came to our opening on Saturday, Oct 11... Lenny and his wife Mary brought their daughter and granddaughter along. I was honored that they came to The Idora Park Experience. Lennys family were part owners in Idora Park from 1949 through Idoras closure in 1984. Lenny was an active owner, along with Pat Duffy Jr. and Max Rindin. Anyway, Mary told me a really cool story about the Hooterville Highway ride. When the Arrow Cars (thats who made the cars) showed up for the new season in 1969, the Big 3 (Lenny, Pat and Max) struggled to come up with a name for the new ride. Lenny went home that night and talked about the ride with Mary. Mary was at home with their children all day and she thought about the new-old cars that Idora had just purchased and the TV series Petticoat Junction...the town in the show was named Hooterville. Well,...two and two added up (easy math, no acorn needed) so Mary suggested they name the new ride Hooterville Highway! Lenny didnt think that Pat Duffy, Jr or Max Rindin would go for it, but he begrudgingly told them what Mary had suggested... You know the rest of the story... And... Check out the Canfield/Chaney play thats coming out soon. I dont know the name of the play or exactly when it opens, but its REAL SOON! And, the Hooterville a Highway car is in it! Please support these young kids and go see the play. Special thanks to Mike Pacak for lending his Hooterville Highway car to The Idora Park Experience and to Canfield and Chaney High Schools. Thanks Mike! Pssst...go see the play!
