Cannabis POW Marilyn Greene on yesterdays Sentencing Reduction Ruling: I want to thank you all for working toward prison reform. It was both a joyous and a sad day yesterday. The first wave was one of joy as the word got out concerning the 2 point reduction. Women were crying when they thought they would be getting out in Nov. and finally being with their families. Then the sadness hit. Although the 2 point reduction is a step in the right direction it was a one two punch as these women realized that there was going to be a one year delay in implementation. It took the sails out of the party. Women who have been down 5, 10 ,15 years or more saw their salvation turn into another disappointment. We are all happy for the women who have not been imprisoned long since this will help them. There is a solidarity among inmates where everyone hopes the best for the others. But it is sad when you have waited so long for something positive to happen in your life to see it evaporate. Plans to finally be with children who are teens but were toddlers when you left. Graduations you thought you would be able to attend. To be there for aging parents and be able to attend Grandparents funerals. Weddings, births and other important events now just a picture in the mail. It is 15 months until these new guidelines will be implemented. How come our government can spy on heads of states from other countries but can not figure out how to monitor a group of citizens within our own country? Why cant they hire some of the huge number of unemployed to increase the number of probation officers? How many of us need to wear an anklet to remind us that we will go back to prison if we try to run away. I believe the 5 additional years down will do that. You would think that with the huge savings that releasing these inmates would generate they could afford to hire some people and make this happen in a few months instead of over a year. So, with the joys come the sorrows. Tell the child of an inmate that another year doesnt make a difference. In solidarity Thank you for all you do Marilyn #20400075
