Canning River parkrun is growing! We had 194 parkrunners today on our 78th event, making it our third biggest event to date. The influx of parkrun tourists was a direct result of one of the parkrun family reaching the 50 run club. Clint Bishop, under no pressure, decided today was his day to celebrate - by joining the 50 parkrun club and by breaking his PB! With the help of his Batman t-shirt, expert pacing from Ben Harris and a whole lot of parkrunners hitching a ride on the party bus he did. I dont know if it was the speed of White Lightning sprinting ahead to get party bus video footage, the pumping tunes of DJ AK, the camaraderie of the local parkrunners and travelling parkrun tourists arriving especially for the fun, or the promise of Tracys batman cupcakes, but he obliterated his PB by 102 seconds. Clint is a model parkrunner. He is determined and sets realistic goals - then he goes and achieves them - this is his 14th PB in 26 runs at Canning River! Clint has put his hand up thirteen times to volunteer including eleven times as Run Director to bring people together to enjoy parkrun. Well done Clint! If you think volunteering is too hard, it isnt! Like Clint put your hand up, so we all can enjoy parkrun. We had a wonderful group of volunteers today and thanks to those who stepped in to help with the barcodes when we needed it most. As a Run Director this is really appreciated! So many tourists today graced the wonderful Canning River parkrun paths. North of the river, south of the river and even from the east coast. We had a visitor from hilly Victorian parkrun at Westerfolds too. Check out the #parkrun100 video for a snapshot of this course. Aileen Pegg, the Event Director from the pending Coodanup (Mandurah) parkrun joined us today and we recieved news from Chris Hoy Poy on a possible Bibra Lake parkrun. Watch the parkrun newsletter or the parkrun WA forum for further news. Of the 194 runners there were 25 were first timers - welcome to parkrun! A whopping 43 recorded new Personal Bests. Congrats to all. Kim Thomas, our first finisher was so close to breaking his goal of a sub-17 minute 5km. You will get there soon Kim! Canning River parkrun started on 1st June 2013, and since then 1,640 different runners, including participants from 50 athletics clubs, have completed 9,769 runs covering a total distance of 48,845 km, and there have been 2,343 new Personal Bests. Todays full results and a complete event history can be found on the Canning River parkrun Results Page. parkrun.au/canningriver/results/latestresults/
