Cannonball Adderley played alto sax on Miles Davis’ 1959 release - TopicsExpress

Cannonball Adderley played alto sax on Miles Davis’ 1959 release of “Kind of Blue.” One of the most significant recordings of all time. About a year before this, Miles Davis played trumpet on Adderley’s “Somthin’ Else.” If you’re a fan of “Kind of Blue” you owe it to yourself to become familiar with this album. I’ve chosen track one, of “Somethin’ Else” as my musical selection of the week, “Autumn Leaves.” Partly, because of the season, partly because I’ve recently started listening, to Cannonball Adderley after kind of forgetting about him for several years. I fired up “Somethin’ Else,” Friday night while cooking supper, and it was like I really heard it or the first time. The English lyrics, for “Autumn Leaves” were written by the great Johnny Mercer, but the original is French and titled, “Les feuilles mottes,” or “the Dead Leaves.” Even if you don’t care for jazz, give this one a chance till just after the 50 second mark. You will learn what the “big deal” is about Miles Davis! https://youtube/watch?v=p0GqJDMmp64
