Cannot believe the Telecom people. Totally amazing technicians. I come to the office yesterday and the adsl is offline and the Telecom router is blinking away like Christmas lights. So I call the Telecom people and get an immediate answer and am connected to some nice girl, who has me unplug and replug in the router a dozen times, mess around with a series of things, consults with her colleagues (and I can hear the conversation in the background that leads me to believe she just started working in the technical sector of the call center)...and after endless tries and nothing happening she tells me that we can go one of two ways since she has decided that my ADSL router is burned out. First is that I wait for the technician to come in next morning to substitute the router with another one, BUT that is apparently all he will do - just put a new one in the place of the old one, OR, I can opt for the specialized technician to come in and substitute the router but also reset all my IP addresses and connections and fix any system problems - modicum cost of 95 euros. I of course agree that he is cheaper than calling in my own geeks to fix messed up lines, so I close down shop, deal with what I can through my iphone, and go home. In the afternoon, she calls me again to find out if a technician has contacted me, and yes, one had called to set up appointment at 9 am. So I have to say, total efficiency on their part in dealing with an urgent problem. I mean, being offline for 24 hours will not kill anyone, right? So, this morning I come to the office, turn on the servers and the pcs, and notice that the router is steadily blinking away at a reasonable pace. So I check out the internet and the wifi and everything works again....which means that the router was not the problem. I grab the phone and call up Telecom again and talk to a nice guy and give him the claims number to cancel the tech visit and he says to me in a very resigned and patient voice "thank you for being so kind - unfortunately, yesterday in your area a lightning bolt hit one of our internet nodes so most of the connections were down, but we fixed them in the course of the afternoon...but the people in the technical department only were made aware of this around noon, so they put in all kinds of orders to change burned ADSL routers". Now I wonder how many people are going to get visits by technicians with new routers this morning... Ok, so my question NOW is, are the people at Telecom really that uninformed about what is happening in their area or were they trying to make some fast bucks by charging everyone 95 euros for a new router and tecchy visit?
