Canny politicians and governors of the ruling party have - TopicsExpress

Canny politicians and governors of the ruling party have disrespectfully insulted the judgment of the electorates. It is an acceptable tradition to raise fund for campaign but it is unethical for such funds to come from people holding public offices whose proof of efficacy of office is in query. Regardless of claims of milestone progress such show of shame have stymied their effort greatly. I have always posited that the responsibilities of leaders are to clarify purpose and values, set direction, build community and initiate and manage change. Unfortunately the college of Nigerian politicians are cloaked with variables that do not reflect stakeholders’ premises of concern. It is an infringement on the on-going process. These politicians do not understand the culture of the prevailing political enterprise and the context within which it operates; Nigerians have gone beyond being manoeuvred by whiff of money. The avalanche endurance of a stifled people is also fast running out of time. They are a tired people who just want to be told this siege is over. Despite decades of effort and this deluge of leadership and acceptable paradigm issue we have also failed to identify the source code that will produce a good leader for this large miserable population. That is the discourse that is presently charging the current in our polity. The populace inadvertently becomes an accessory in the blame game because their certification of leadership depends on their judgemental perspective. The beginning of our new history requires imperative of a diversion to a new political construct or we will most likely morph the ambitions of our future generation into a mirage. The use of public funds for political donations is simply nothing but an expression of perceived lack of competence of the governors. It is a crime! We must not be naïve to fringes in our leanings. It is also unfortunate that we most often succumb to the fundamental attribution error of fancy propensities. Following on the heels of enduring homily by our various politicians on separate divide on what fulfilment we deserve as a people; such reoccurring malaise has repeatedly been meted out on the people and hopeful promises sacrificed at the altar of selfish necessities. There exist a disconnect correlation between performance and leadership in Nigeria. The catalogue of issue besetting this country is enough to steer the concert of demons into concert of angels on a justifiable moral ground. Nigeria has suffered an abundance of felonious and toxic leaders, and others who make bad decisions or betray the confidence of their constituents. We have leaders who have failed to act because of weakness of will, even when the righteous cause of action is clearly in sight. Should we continue to produce the classic tragedy of the commons? No!! That is not acceptable. It is in this toxic exemplary practice that interferes with the hope and the little patience that is left in the citizen that gets him transformed into the common cultural practice of a dejected social construct. For those charged with the responsibility to choose their leaders, the selection process is critical. They need to identify potential leaders who possess the core traits of character, creativity and compassion, those that have a clear sense of purpose and the energy to pursue that purpose.
