Cant sleep. Tried reading for class, but Im irritated with the victim-heroine protagonist of Clarissa. Ive taken to penciling in my own chapter headings. Currently on In Which Everyone Is Mean And Yells At Clarissa, Who Alternately Cries And Fans Herself In Agitation, And It Goes On For Quite Some Time. It is a good book, maybe even a great one. Im invested enough in the characters to be sincerely annoyed by their behavior. COME ON CLARISSA, stand up for yourself. Kick them in the shin. Hit them with your fan. DO SOMETHING. Because this does not look like its going to end well and we still have 1000 pages to go (this novel is roughly the size and weight of a cinder block. It clocks in at over a million words). ON MY WORD, CLARISSA, IF YOU FLING YOURSELF INTO YOUR MAIDS ARMS OR FAN YOURSELF ONE MORE TIME, I WILL REACH INTO THE BOOK AND SMACK YOU. Ok, yeah, so I guess I am enjoying myself.
