Canyons and Plains of Southeastern Colorado will hold its regional meeting on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Fort Lyon, between 9 a.m.-11 a.m. The meeting will begin with a presentation on Fort Lyon’s history and recent repurposing efforts by Lisa Trigilio, Program Director, Colorado Coalition for the Homeless at Fort Lyon. Also on the agenda is the appointment of Rick Manzanares as Executive Director of Canyons and Plains of Southeastern Colorado. He grew up in the Arkansas Valley and graduated from Manzanola High School. He has since had extensive background in heritage, cultural and museum development. He served as the former Museum Director of the Fort Garland Museum, a regional museum of the Colorado Historical Society for 15 years. He served on several Boards and committees in the region. Following the meeting the group will have a picnic lunch and tour the McClave Park improvements. Valley Grocery is offering a sack lunch with a sandwich, chips, cookie and drink for $5 per bag. Please RSVP by October 14th so that enough food can be prepared. Canyons & Plains (formerly known as the Southeast Colorado Regional Heritage Task Force) is a heritage tourism development organization. Formed in 2003, C&P serves seven counties—Baca, Bent, Crowley, Kiowa, Otero, Prowers, and eastern Las Animas. The non-profit group promotes visitation to and stewardship of the unique historical, natural and cultural assets of south-eastern Colorado among resident, state, national, and international audiences. Since its formation, C&P has garnered over $1 million in funding for projects in the area.
