Jerome Ascano ALVIN Patrimonio says he would have wanted to win a grand slam as a player, but noted he is even happier to work on the sidelines and behind the scenes to help San Mig Coffee complete the triple crown. “Part ng goal ko rin dati ’yun pero mas masarap ngayon na team manager na ako,” said Patrimonio. Patrimonio was on the losing end in the last PBA grand slam, when his Purefoods squad lost to Alaska, 4-1, in the 1996 All-Filipino Cup, the first of three titles for the Milkmen that year under Tim Cone. Cone once again did the rare feat, this time guiding the Mixers to the grand slam with a 92-89 win over Rain or Shine in an intense Game Five. “I’m very happy for the players and coaching staff. Kasi this is the goal of the team at eto ’yung resulta for the Purefoods franchise. This team is the best. We just want to dedicate ’yung games sa Panginoon, sa management, at sa lahat ng supporters ng San Mig Coffee Mixers,” said Patrimonio. From a team managers standpoint, Patrimonio said the players really deserve winning the rare feat of becoming just the fourth team in PBA history to win a grand slam. “They deserve the rewards kasi nagpapakamatay ’yung mga bata,” said Patrimonio. Patrimonio said the grand slam ranks right up with winning four Most Valuable Player awards during his playing career. “Pareho kasing blessing ’yun. Pareho ring galing sa hardwork and sacrifice. Kaya talagang priceless pareho,” said Patrimonio, when asked to compare the two accomplishments.
