Cape Town churches responding to disaster incidents - Over the past two weeks there have been two incidents which have each left around 1,000 people without shelter and facing Cape winter storms. We have been working with others to develop a collaborative church response to incidents such as these. It has been wonderful to see churches responding to the fire in Masiphumelele and the evictions in Lwandle with mercy and justice. Mercy in providing appropriate relief in the form of blankets, food and clothing and justice through the involvement of church leaders in these incidents. Today Laser Logistics (give them a big cheer next time you see them) helped us deliver 280 blankets from Hillsong and St Johns Parish Wynberg, a number of big bags of warm clothing and meal packets from Stop Hunger Now Southern Africa to the people affected by the Lwandle evictions. Many of these people are being sheltered by the Methodist church in the community. Thank you to all who gave clothes, their time and financially to help this happen. Well stay in touch with the church leaders to see what else is needed over the next couple of days. If youd like to contribute to this or other winter incidents you can find out how here - givengain/cause/1976/projects/14813/
