Capital One Bank Announces ‘Greaux GNO’ Small Business Growth Plan Competition for Small Businesses in the New Orleans Area that Meet Qualifying Criteria Cash prizes of $20,000 for the grand prize winner and $10,000 and $5,000 for runner-ups will be awarded New Orleans (June 24, 2013) – Capital One Bank, in partnership with the Louisiana Small Business Development Center Greater New Orleans Region (LSBDC), Urban League of Greater New Orleans, and the City of New Orleans/New Orleans Public Library, today announced the “Greaux GNO” small business growth plan competition. The purpose of Greaux GNO, which will award a total of $35,000 in cash prizes, is to help small businesses in the New Orleans area parishes grow and create jobs. “At Capital One Bank, we are committed to Investing for Good in the New Orleans area, connecting our company’s people and financial resources to education, financial literacy, and small business and workforce development,” said Steve Hemperley, Southeast Louisiana Market President for Capital One Bank. “The Greaux GNO competition is a great example of how we bring Investing for Good to life for small businesses in the New Orleans area.” To be eligible for the Greaux GNO competition, businesses and their owners must meet the following key criteria: · Business revenues in the most recent fiscal year must have been $1 million or less. · The applicant must have owned the business since before Aug. 1, 2012 · By Aug. 8, the applicant must attend at least three workshops that are being offered in Orleans and Jefferson parishes, including orientations to be held at area libraries. The workshops are being conducted by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center and the Urban League of Greater New Orleans by Aug. 8. To view a list of the courses, including times and locations they will be offered, go to cybergrants/capitalone/greauxGNOinfo · During the workshops, participants will learn how and when to submit a written letter of intent to be considered for the small business growth competition. Capital One Bank officials in the New Orleans area will review the letters of intent and, by Aug. 30, select 25 businesses to go on to the next stage of the competition and submit a complete application for review. Between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30, each of the 25 businesses will submit an actual application through Capital One Bank’s CyberGrants application process. Also, each of those businesses will be assigned a Capital One business banker from the New Orleans area to assist it in preparing the CyberGrants application. The final deadline for the CyberGrants application will be Sept. 30. Six finalists then will be notified that they will compete in the final stage of the Greaux GNO Small Business Growth Competition in mid-October. During the competition, each contender will make an 8-10 minute business presentation in front of a panel of community and business leaders. The cash awards will go to the owners of the three businesses whose plans are judged by the panel to be the most creative, innovative and likely to succeed to grow their business and create jobs in greater New Orleans.
