Capricorn District Municipality scooped the communicator of the year award as well as the best marketed district at the inaugural Limpopo media and communicator’s awards. Held at Peter Mokaba stadium last Thursday, the awards were sponsored by Old Mutual and Vodacom - an initiative of Limpopo News media house, conceived with an idea of spreading recognition to journalists and communicators in the province. When receiving the award, CDM communications manager Jabu Masondo said it is an outstanding feeling to have our work recognized. “Receiving recognition in the two categories is a tremendous compliment and validated the hard work and creativity of my team. We are honored and humbled to have won the awards. This esteemed recognition inspires us to continue to create and develop stellar and innovative work”, Masondo said. Nominations were made by journalists and media practitioners in the local media landscape and CDM was thus nominated up against all other districts in same categories and judges were convinced and satisfied with CDM as one of the best in the industry. “It is a true validation of all of our hard work weve put in”, Masondo explained. The award comes at a time when the team’s motivation is at its peak to strengthen CDM’s communication machinery. Masondo pointed out that the municipality is tapping on the diverse expertise and experience of the team to improve events managements, media relations, corporate communication, and marketing and social media engagements. “We are delighted that the modern media technology has presented us with communication opportunities that were previously inconceivable. Now we are able to communicate in a borderless environment through social media networks to increase our footprint, reach more people and interact with people instantly”, he says. Being a communicator of the year winner is a great sense of pride that we are doing great work and adds that extra pizzazz when marketing our district and it has helped draw attention to the value of the marketing that we provide as an in-house team, he says.
