Captain Andy Sanger MBE will swap his Army barracks for the television studio tomorrow when he guests and commentates on the annual Army v Navy rugby match for Sky Sports 2. A former Army Rugby player and coach himself, Andy will join Sky Sports 2s James Gemmell and former Royal Navy Rugby Captain Nick Bartlett in the Twickenham studio, and will be making regular contributions to match commentary throughout. Rugby has always played an important part in Andy’s life. A keen player since his school days, Andy (45) joined the Army straight from school and represented the Army in competitive rugby until 2001. He is based at Carver Barracks Wimbish, where he works as the Regiments Careers Management Officer for 101 Engineer Regiment (EOD). I played against some great international teams including Tonga, Argentina and Romania. The Army has given me some great opportunities to play a sport I love all over the world. Having hung up his boots, he went into coaching, becoming Head Coach for the Army Senior Team. I coached the team during the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 seasons, and that included coaching ahead of the Army v Navy game. I know how hard all the players train ahead of this game. The game means a lot to both sides. He is of course hoping the Army will win: We should win. We have some great players. If all the guys are on form, we could win by 15 to 20 points. However, you never know; things can change on the day. My reporting will be very neutral and fair. I will report it as I see it. Watch (and cheer for the Army) on Sky Sports 2 HD or through BFBS. Coverage starts from 2:55pm tomorrow (Sat 3rd May).
