Captains Log...Update Although we were expecting them to insert Cassies perm catheter and run a CT Scan of her lung yesterday, both were put off for today. Yesterday, they began her on Methylprednisolone. This is a steroid designed to prevent the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. It is important to understand that this treatment is not expected to repair her kidneys, but instead to insure that these antibodies do not harm any other organs and begin to prepare her body for the transplant. Meanwhile, she is scheduled for her CT Scan of her lung at 9 AM this morning followed by pre-op to insert her perm catheter. We are waiting for results from 2 blood tests. One that we expected to come in yesterday but may not come in until today that should exclude a third (possible but not likely) autoimmune disease. The results from the second blood test are not expected until next week and may be able to tell us which of the two likely diagnosis caused Cassies kidney failure. The two are actually very similarly, but differ in how they will be treated in the long term, after the transplant.
