Captains log Sept 1 Taking off out from under the bridge in Sartell, were only miles away from a set of rapids coming into St. Cloud. Well everyone had said they were mild, but as we approached them down the middle we realized wed rather portage. Scrambling to make it to shore we realize the current is pulling our stern in towards the rapids, so at the last second we back paddle so hard so that the bow is going straight into these rapids, both of us prepared to capsize, hit them head on taking in gallons and gallons of water - hearts racing. WOOOO-HOOOO!! the day called for a stop in St. Cloud treasure hunting at goodwill. Returning to the water at early after noon, we paddle into dusk finding a perfect island to put our tent on. We share a warm fire and fire performance with our friend Jim, our friend from earlier, another gentleman also kayaking the Mississippi. The perfect location and weather allow for finishing the paint job on our canoe.
