Cara and I are trying to decide what to do about To Kill a Mockingbird during the upcoming school year. Unfortunately, we do not have enough time to read and analyze the entire novel (only 5 weeks!), so last semester, we kept skipping sections, focusing only on Atticus, Tom Robinson, the Ewells, and the trial. Which kinda sucked because the students didnt get to know Jem or Scout very well, and Dill and Boo were basically nonexistent. Even that was still cutting it too close time-wise. We dont want to get rid of the book; its required reading for freshmen English but were really struggling about how to work it into a five-week time period. Plus, we OF COURSE dont get 150 copies, so the students cannot take it home to read on their own time. It all must be done in-class. Any ideas?!?!
