Carbon dioxide levels measured in Mauna Loa, Hawaii were observed - TopicsExpress

Carbon dioxide levels measured in Mauna Loa, Hawaii were observed to be the highest they had ever been: 400 ppm. Pre-industrial levels topped out at 280 ppm. Researchers are not surprised by this landmark number as air pollution has increased since the world became industrialized and depended on fossil fuels. While carbon levels have fluctuated in the past, the current rate is 100 times faster than during other warming periods. Researcher Ralph Keeling notes: “But what happens from here on still matters to climate, and its still under our control. It mainly comes down to how much we continue to rely on fossil fuels for energy.” More info: bit.ly/YzROqt Photo credit: Brocken Inaglory
