Care for the horse is first having enough confidence in yourself to be bold and gentle. This arises from knowing first how to care for yourself properly. Care brings kindness alive. Being able to know what to do or not to do brings the principle of gentleness to life. Kind is the approach and gentle is the action. The third aspect is to coordinate and join these two principles together in lightness. Calm, forward and straight, the basics of training thus come alive. The linking of mind and body create all that is beautiful and good in dressage. The union of these ideas is the principle of nobility. We rule ourselves first and rule our horse secondly.This is leadership which is beyond aggression and dominance because it is organic. This is an enlightened dressage. It is a personal journey to find what is best in the horse and human, bringing it all together in order to manifest the centaur effect. It is a journey without goal and without end. It is the only trip really worth Taking. It is an authentic and vibrant joy found in beautiful work whose evidence is the harmony.
