Career Services Specialist Huntington Park The Career Services Specialist is responsible for three major components of a successful student placement experience. The first includes identifying, developing and securing relationships with employers to hire students/graduates of IEC/UEI College programs through developing externship to hire and direct hire job order opportunities. The second key component includes preparing our students for job placement readiness for their externship and future employment through relationship building, resume development and interviewing readiness through effective and quality service to graduates. The third critical component integrated into the above distinctions of the job requirements is meeting set placement standards as established by accrediting agencies, the state and annual IEC goals and objectives while meeting administrative record keeping and reporting requirements. Primary/Essential Duties and Responsibilities External Relationship Responsibilities • Responsible for developing relationships with employers to ensure site development and extern to hire accountabilities are identified and met to develop externship to hire sites. • Establish and maintain activities to develop locate and secure leads and job openings for graduates that are appropriate for our programs to include by not limited to participation in outreach and recruitment activities by coordinating and attending job fairs. • Make the appropriate number of marketing calls necessary to generate the required number of leads and job orders to meet accreditation standards of each program assigned to. • Initiates and maintains on- going relationships with a variety of local business and industry representatives to promote UEI graduates to enhance, develop and increase business relationships placements. Through the relationship development of CSS rapport with employers, include/invite employers to guest speak to students and graduates. Include employers in organized job fairs. • Identify entry-level job opportunities for graduates and students through employment ads, phone calls, personal contacts, community outreach to develop job leads and employment sites, the internet and written correspondence. • Advisory Board meetings: Build solid rapport with employers to ensure their participation at annual Advisory Board meetings. Ensure Advisory Board meetings are well organized and attended by program faculty and managers and employers representing each program. • Coordinates and compiles surveys to employers • Achieve placement results in each program as established by accrediting agencies, state entities and current established company targets. Internal/Student Relationship Responsibilities • Develop early on relationships with students in their assigned program to access students strengths, areas of improvement, and match students skills with extern sites to meet extern to hire percentage. • Deliver and coordinate career development workshops on a monthly basis. Prepares and coaches graduates for career fairs. Prepares graduates for employment by teaching resume writing, resume formatting, interviewing and networking skills. • Administratively, ensure all interaction with graduate is adequately documented in Transcript including all notes. Immediate follow up with all graduates and employers following interviews • Secure Externship sites for all students in their last module of study, to ensure no interruption to their academic attendance. • Meet with campus management i.e. DOE, ADOCS and/or DOCS on weekly basis to review student progress on externship. • Coordinates and compiles surveys to graduates. • Completes the Gross Placement process for new placements, including obtaining all necessary forms to validate the placement, PT job form, temp form, self employment form and waiver as needed • Promote alumni and employer presentations to staff and students. • Complies with all Federal, State, accreditation and institutional policies and procedures. • Ensure ethical and accurate placement documentation and recordkeeping which meets all company and regulatory agency standards. • Other duties as assigned. Essential Skills and Experience • Be able to perform and produce top quality work independently and within teams exhibiting patience and a positive attitude. • Effective leadership and customer service skills to include strong communication skills, presentation skills and proven organizational skills. • Goal oriented, assertive, results driven, high energy and highly ethical with the ability to make decisions and drive results. • Ability to demonstrate selling skills, close and overcome objections. • Must have reliable mode of transportation, valid drivers license and provide proof of current car insurance • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a large distributed multi-site organization. • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelors degree preferred. • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team. • PC efficiency in MS Office. • English will be the primary language used; bilingual abilities useful but not required. • Detail oriented.
