Cargill Makes Big Turkey Donation for the Holiday Season November 19, 2014 - - Little Rock, AR - - For the 2014 holiday season, Wichita, Kansas-based Cargill Turkey and Cooked Meats, which operates Cargills U.S. turkey business, is donating turkeys to the Arkansas Food Bank in Little Rock. This donation is incremental to the annual gift of turkeys made by the company to various charitable organizations. Cargill Springdale also donates to many local charities in the Northwest Arkansas area such as the NWA Foodbank and many other non-profit organizations. We are delighted to be able to provide these turkeys to the Arkansas Foodbank in Little Rock from our turkey processing facility located in Springdale, said Cargills turkey general manager Shane Acosta. There are many deserving people in Arkansas, and we are pleased to provide nutritious, flavorful, wholesome turkey for meals during the holiday season. We do as much as possible to help others less fortunate in our communities at this time of the year. Building better communities has been a part of Cargill’s long standing culture. It is important that we continue to invest in, and engage with, the communities where we live and work,” stated Acosta. The Arkansas Foodbank, based in Little Rock, is the largest provider of non-governmental food in the state. They serve more than 270,000 people a year while distributing out 67,000 meals a day. “We acquire and distribute food to more than 300 member agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, schools, colleges, and after-school feeding programs in 33 central and southern Arkansas counties, explained Arkansas Foodbank chief executive officer Rhonda Sanders. “This is the time of year where families and friends come together to enjoy a delicious meal yet so many Arkansans may not have that privilege. Cargills gift of turkeys will significantly help our programs serving our states hungry this holiday season. We are very proud of our member company Cargill, said Marvin Childers, president of the states poultry federation. Cargills generous gift of turkeys during the holiday season has a tremendous positive impact in Arkansas, and many families will now have an opportunity to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal. We believe it is extremely important for people to be properly nourished, stated Acosta. When people have enough good food to eat, they and their communities are better able to thrive. Thats a point of view that weve maintained as part of Cargills values and guiding principles since the companys founding nearly 150 years ago, and its as relevant today as it was in 1865. In addition to the turkey donation in Little Rock, Cargill Springdale made a large donation to the Northwest Arkansas Foodbank with over 1,000 whole birds and 265 BIB’s (Bone In Breasts) for two of their Senior Center Food Pantries. Cargill Cares team also sends volunteers every month to both pantries. The Poultry Federation of Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma thanks Cargill and Cargill employees for their efforts in helping to eliminate hunger, especially during the holiday season.
