*Caring for your spouse is an act of ibadut (worship)* Many people misunderstand the concept of Ibadah. Yes, there are very obvious religious acts like salat, fasting and so on.. but people do not understand that if we do something for the sake of Allah, it becomes a form of ibadah and we are rewarded for it. Taking care of your spouse is a form of ibadah. Intimacy, if done in the halal way, is an act which is rewarded. Example - Many times you hear that a husband spends all his time in dawah activities and does not spend time with his wife, therefore depriving the wife of her rights. This is wrong. While giving dawah is a good thing, it is obligatory upon the husband to spend time with his wife as well. [Another example] If a wife is pregnant at home and needs help, then it becomes obligatory upon the husband to stay at home and help her instead of, for example, doing itekaf in the mosque. And hell be rewarded for this. The same applies to the wife. She has to fulfil her duties towards her husband and shell be rewarded for this. Ibn Taymiyyah defined ibadah as a comprehensive noun encompassing everything that Allah loves and is pleased with - whether saying, or actions, outward and inward.
