Carl Ford has posted this photo of Air Commerz V.808 series Viscount D-ADAN taken at Elmdon, Birmingham, West Midlands, England 21 June 1972. Carl notes that this Viscount was no stranger to the Birmingham ramp as it had been a regular Aer Lingus visitor as EI-AKO. This Viscount was built for Aer Lingus as EI-AKJ and first flew on Sunday, 21 December 1958 at Weybridge, Surrey, England powered by Rolls-Royce Dart 510 engines. It was re-registered EI-AKO on the 18 February 1959 to avoid confusion with Viscount EI-AJK. In 1967 it was converted to a V.808C cargo configuration for Aer Lingus that included the fitment of a double sized forward cabin door. During its life it was also owned and/or operated by Air Commerz, SOAF – Sultan of Omans Air Force, Scibe Airlift Zaire, and MMM Aero Services (3MAS). Its fate:- Withdrawn from service by MMM Aero Services (3MAS) as 9Q-CGM and stored at Kinshasa, Zaire in 1985. Final fate unknown. Details please to the Vickers Viscount Network. Malcolm Hills photo of the same aircraft while being operated by Aer Lingus as EI-AKJ was taken at Collinstown, Dublin, Ireland in January 1959.
