Carl and I went to see Maleficent last night and enjoyed it. Some not-too-spoilery comments: 1. Dont expect continuity with Disneys original. 2. Darwin Awards, Fantasy Division, you have a contender-- or would, if the character in question hadnt managed to reproduce quickly. 3. The movie answered something Id always wondered about -- Maleficents horns are part of her body, not attached to the headdress. 4. I saw the Big Plot Twist coming a mile away. 5. Wouldve liked the raven tove turned resentful and rebellious eventually. What a toady. (Yes, he does whine and complain once). 6. It wouldve been more compelling had Maleficent been far more evil and Stefan not so irredeemable, or at least more indication that he loved his family enough so that cursing Aurora would hurt him MORE than tormenting or killing him. A woman scorned, indeed. 7. For people whod complain that Evil!Maleficent would never have grown fond of Aurora, listen carefully to the initial blessing before the curse. Hoist by her own petard, that. 8. Angelina Jolie did a fantastic job -- too bad the script didnt live up to it.
