Carl met Jesus this morning at 5:30. Thanks to all for the prayers and well wishes. ~ I read this post from Carls sister, a short time ago .. my oldest friend in Augusta, Carl Lanehart, is gone. I want to thank all of you that shared your sympathies and prayers with me a short while back, when I asked for them .. for him. Your blessings were immeasurable; his condition, unsustainable. Carl .. was Carl and that means that all who knew him have Carl stories to share and remember him. Carl was a big hearted, gentle giant of a man, who wasnt a kid, but made you see one in him. He was live and let live, yet always ready to share his favorite things. He was nostalgic and simple in his love for music and that describes his love of 151, as well. He could be stubborn, his own man, but he was open and direct, when someone crossed the line on matters that he had his own position defined. Otherwise, he let it go. He had two reliable roads he walked on lifes journey. He was an advocate for animals, esp. cats. A visit to Carls meant the smell of a litter box and pet hair on the seat of your pants. His other obsession was Halloween, with a Chapter Two, at Christmas. No one could dress the part or decorate like Carl Lanehart! He hit the nail, squarely on the head, every time, every year. But, Carl needed other people. He didnt like change. He liked to entertain, he liked magic. He liked being a part of something. The King George Pub and the relationships he made there, stayed with him. When he had to leave it, as with so many things he HAD to leave, left a part of him behind. He was never the same in any loss of his reality that had brought him happiness. Carl forecast this day, many times over the years; he was probably relieved, when it arrived. Carl carried the weight of things in his soul and it emerged, on the wings of his loud music and hard drinking that was his routine. He was able to say farewell to those he admired most and assure himself that he would live on in all their hearts. Thanks, Carl.
