Hard and fast perceptions can be dangerous to the one holding them but also to the impressionable minds nearby. Our children learn who and what is of value to us and they absorb our perceptions as absolute truth. The luckiest children are those whose parents have changed their minds about something and opened to the possibility they had been wrong in the first place! What a great lesson to look at your child and say ‘think for yourself. Your perceptions will be the scaffolding of your life, so take care of your mind and don’t jump to conclusions!’ Anyone who has an inherited perception knows how shocking the moment is, when we realize it isn’t true! ‘Those people’ are not what we were told they were. They are like us after all, in so many ways. The differences are what make them so interesting.” What would our lives be today if we had never changed our perception of the shape of our planet? A sphere or a flat disc? Therein lies our reality. It could very well be that we are wrong about many things we assume to be true, especially about ourselves. We are not really the products of our childhood. We are the expression of Life itself, individualized and free to extend the gift. We are much more than we appear to be. Think about it. Isn’t that a better way to see ourselves than as a victim of anything? Our self perception has motor power that propels us into tomorrow. Change the perception, change the future.
