Carolina started out on a 10-0 run in the first seven minutes, 20-4 halfway through the first half, and looked like the team that we expected to see this season. Carolina led from the opening tap and finished the Bahamas road trip with a 75-64 victory over Florida, taking two of three on the island and claiming fifth place in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament. After leading by 18 in the first half and 39-23 following JP Tokotos buzzer-beating three to end the half, Carolina shot close to 58% from the field (15 for 26), while holding the Gators to just 29% (9 for 31) and just 1 for 15 from three. Florida woke up early in the second half, thanks in part to Carolina starting the second half shooting 6 of 21 and finished the second half going just 8 for 25. The lead was cut to seven twice late in the game, but Carolina salted it away with clutch free throws. For the 5-1 Tar Heels, all five starters scored in double figures, with Kennedy Meeks as the top scorer with 18 points on 8 of 12 shooting and a season high 13 rebounds. Marcus Paige had 16, Justin Jackson with 12, and Brice Johnson and JP Tokoto each with 10. Johnson also pulled down seven boards. Carolina shot 45% for the game, 50% from behind the arc, and 74% from the line. They outrebounded Florida 42-40, but gave up 21 offensive boards. Carolina will head back to Chapel Hill on Saturday and will prepare for their annual ACC-Big 10 Challenge game, where they will host Iowa at the Smith Center on Wednesday night. The game will be on ESPN with a 7:30pm tip.
