Carolina will be looking to match its season-high five-game win - TopicsExpress

Carolina will be looking to match its season-high five-game win streak when Florida State comes to Chapel Hill for a 2:00pm clash. Carolina looks to remain on pace with Virginia and Notre Dame as a win today will put them at 6-1 in the ACC, which will be its best league start in three years. The Tar Heels are 15-4 on the season and face a heavy issue for the next few games. Carolina will be without four (possibly five) reserve guards to injuries - the latest being Theo Pinson, who suffered a tear in the fifth metatarsal during the first half of Wednesdays game against Wake Forest. Nate Britt received 15 stitches to his mouth and his status is a game-time decision. The front line currently has no issues health-wise. They have been playing super basketball during this current win streak. Brice Johnson has averaged 13 points and nearly 10 boards, while Kennedy Meeks has averaged 13 and 7 during the streak and Justin Jackson has averaged 16.5 points in his last two games. Florida State enters the game at 10-9 on the season and 2-4 in the ACC following a Monday night road win at Clemson. The Seminoles also have guard issues. FSU lost junior guard Aaron Thomas six games in due to academics, and Devin Bookert has been the workload in the backcourt since returning from a foot injury. FSU does have lots of size. They have three players at least 7-feet tall and rotate throughout the game. Their headliner is 68 Montay Brandon, who averages 13.2 points per game, and 64 freshman PG Xavier Rathan-Mayes averages 12.7 points and over 4.5 assists. Bookert averages just over 10 points per game. As a team, Florida State has issues shooting long range. They average 26.7% and they average 66% from the charity stripe, both next to last in the league. On defense, they average 47% allowed on field goals, which is right at where Carolina is offensively, and they allow 33 rebounds, while the Heels lead the league at pulling down 43. Hopefully, if the 15th-ranked Tar Heels win today, they will temporarily be tied with Notre Dame for second for at least one day (the Irish play at State tomorrow night). Todays game will be on ESPN, and then again on Monday night when Syracuse comes in.
