Carolinas size and defense enabled them to lead by as many as 18 points and then held on despite a late run on free throws and 3-pointers by Ohio State. #24 Carolina knocks off #12 Ohio State this afternoon in Chicago by a score of 82-74. Wearing their throwbacks today in the house that Michael Jordan built, Carolina shot 45% from the field and held the Buckeyes to just 25 of 72 shots for just under 35%. They had another good day at the free throw line, but had missed seven of eight late in the game and finished the day shooting 21 of 33 for 63%. OSU made 10 threes in the game and the Heels continue to shoot poorly from that range, only converting just 3 of 13. Brice Johnson led Carolinas scoring with 18 points on 8 of 10 from the floor and was one rebound shy of his second double-double of the season. Marcus Paige scored 16, but still struggled with his shot. Paige was 4 of 12 from the floor and was 2 of 8 from long range. Justin Jackson contributed with 11 points for his first double-figure scoring output in the last six games. Kennedy Meeks and Joel James each had eight points, with Meeks grabbing 13 rebounds. Shannon Scott, the son of UNC great Charlie Scott, scored 10 points for the Buckeyes and was one assist shy of a double-double. With the win, Carolina goes to 8-3 and has won two straight for the first time since Thanksgiving. They should remain in the polls when it comes out on Monday. Their next game is a week from today as they return to the Smith Center to play UAB. The game will be on ESPN2 starting at 4:00pm.
