Carpal tunnel surgery is often thought of as a procedure that is simple and straight forward. But sometimes there are surprises and thats when being in the O.R. with the right surgeon makes all the difference in the world. Today I pulled this massive tumor out of this individuals hand. It was in his carpal tunnel and causing major neurologic deficits and functional compromise to his hand. As physicians most of what we do is routine......until, it isnt. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to treat with the most highly trained and qualified Orthopedic Hand specialist when you have even a minor hand problem (like this individual thought they had). Minor problems may not be as minor as they appear and with improper care minor problems can lead to significant issues.
