Carrick laments horrible term Last Updated: 11:52 05/04/14 Michael Carrick admits the pain of Manchester Uniteds present woes is a horrible ordeal to endure and has revealed the players are feeling the weight of responsibility. The defending champions find themselves languishing seventh in the Premier League standings, having endured one of their most troubled campaigns of recent times. With only 16 wins in their 32 matches to date, United are on course to finish the season with their lowest points total since the Premier Leagues inception in 1992. Uniteds only remaining hope of silverware after Capital One Cup and FA Cup heartaches is the Champions League, where they face a testing trip to the Allianz Arena to face Bayern Munich after their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in their quarter-final first leg. Carrick revealed there is no avoiding the disappointment of the current campaign and claims United are ready to weather the storm to see a return to winning ways. Its horrible, he told the Daily Mail. You go home after a bad result and you suffer more than most because its our responsibility if we have not performed and got the result. You take it to the next game. You constantly ask questions of yourself. You have to face the public on the school run or taking the kids somewhere. Its not pleasant, but if you want to take good times you have to be prepared for the bad times. Carrick endured the sting of relegation with West Ham and believes his experience of sinking to the second tier can provide inspiration for United to buck their current trend. Never forget You never forget those, he admits. Theyre the things that drive you on - being relegated with West Ham, playing in the Championship. I constantly remind myself of that. Its not something I have forgotten. I dont take winning things for granted. You cant do that. That made me even stronger, going through that. I still remember the feeling, without a doubt. Despite United suffering a prolonged period of disappointment, Carrick remains confident they have the ability to regain form ahead of the new season. There are certain times here, through the years, when we have had bad results and we have had two results on the spin - the roof caves in and everything is wrong, he claims. We have gone on to achieve things but for that week it is disastrous, horrible. This year it has been over a longer period, but hopefully we can get back to winning more often. The form of United under the tutelage of David Moyes has received plenty of media attention, notably from former midfielder Paul Scholes and Carrick not willing to create excuses, admitting there is nowhere to hide. Opinions To be fair, results arent going well and when they arent, people see things are wrong, says Carrick. We all have opinions on what can be done better and what team should be picked on the weekend. If you dont get results, people ask questions. We havent played well enough and certain games have been quite damaging. At home, against West Brom, Southampton and Fulham, that is not what we have come to expect. We were saying about character and playing at Old Trafford if it is not going well, and there is no place to hide. He added: United is a different animal, totally. It is more than a club. What happens on the pitch comes with a lot of other stuff - responsibility, expectations. Its tough to put into words. Sometimes it takes players longer to settle than others. That is the nature of the club. But it is not about the individuals, its about the team gelling together. Of course it can work out for everyone.
