Carrickfergus GS 2nd XV 12 Banbridge Acad 2nd XV 15 The game began in cold but pleasant conditions but it wasnt long before the rain came. Carrick started strongly with the pack consistently getting over the gain line. Back row forwards Mark Snoddy and Jeremy Addley were heavily involved but injuries to backs Joel White and Ryan Dillon forced a reshuffle in the backs. Banbridge took the lead shortly afterwards due to some lacklustre tackling. The conversion was added. Scrum half Nathan Doherty sniped well around the ruck and was rewards with another try to continue his rich vein of form. Bradley Luney narrowly missed the conversion but Carrick were back in the game. With the scrum dominant, Carrick launched several attacks through centres Daniel Anaele and Ben Stevenson but they all fizzled out inside the Banbrdige 22. A lack of support led to turnovers at key times. With half time approaching, Banbridge again took advantage of some poor discipline to kick a penalty and extend their lead to 10-5. Further changes at half time introduced fresh legs to the Carrick attack and it was the home team who edged the early exchanges. After some good interplay between backs and forwards Daniel Anaele narrowly missed out on a score with the try line within reach. This galvanised the visitors and after a period of pressure they again swept through the midfield to score an unconverted try. With time running out, the boys continued to apply pressure. After a series of pick and goes, outhalf Ian Woodside darted over from close range. Rowan McCormick added the conversion to bring the score to 12-15. Unfortunately there was no time to mount any further attacks as the final whistle blew in horrendous conditions. The boys can be proud of their efforts against a strong Banbridge team. It was encouraging to have seven substitutes who all played some part in the game. Good individual performances from Mark Snoddy and Daniel Anaele have given the coaching staff some difficult decisions ahead of the midweek clash with Portadown College.
