Cars That Talk to Each Other: The Department of Transportation - TopicsExpress

Cars That Talk to Each Other: The Department of Transportation (DOT) will soon release a report that will form the basis for mandatory vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication in future cars. These WiFi devices will become as ubiquitous as todays seat belts, and provide V2V data such as speed, direction, obstacles sensed by other vehicles and other important safety information. It is the first step toward the long-term vision of automated highways and cars that drive themselves. A few years ago, an automotive think tank published a statement saying that it will ultimately become illegal to manually operate a car. Instead, one will select a destination and the car will drive itself to the destination, and far more safely than with a fallible human operator. This new report makes recommendations and provides findings that outline the foundation for this type of transportation architecture. pcworld/article/2093608/feds-pave-the-way-for-cars-that-can-talk-to-one-another.html
