Carson W. Goins was the first child to call me mommy, but now it’s just mom. I adore his sense of humor, his determination to excel at school, his large heart and compassion for others. He’s incredibly honest and has a strong sense of what’s right and wrong. He’s rarely grumpy and loves to laugh with friends. He is a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin, and he enjoys spending time with everyone in his family. I cherish our long conversations about school, politics, religion, being the oldest, music, his desire to travel and what his life will be like when he grows up. He is my firstborn, and he turns 13 tomorrow. I’m officially the parent of a teenager, and I could not be more proud of him. I love you, Carson. Happy birthday.
