Caruanas Comments 11-5-14 ...When I arrived at the nursing home today Ruth was seated in front of the dinning room TV intently watching an old Carry Grant movie. Her head was up and her eyes were open [I surmise Carry does that to women :-) ] Rather than disturb her I spent some time talking to one of the men residents. He informed me that he had been in the hospital and was surprised to hear that I was too. We swapped war stories and our own personal organ recitals. He seemed very pleased with the attention. ...I finally went up to Ruth and told her how good she looked and she responded I feel good in a clear strong voice. On our hall crawl she would speak to those who spoke to her and seemed to regress to a better stage of the Big A. ...At one point she had tears in her eyes and when I asked what was wrong she said, I have to go and vote. I think all the talk about the election got her thinking about what she was missing. I explained that the election was over and that we won :-) ...While going along the corridor one of my favorite lady residents came zipping along in her motorized wheel chair. I warned her she was going to get a speeding ticket and she stopped to chat. She told me that she was going for dialyses and that she goes twice a week and it takes four hours. She explained that Newark has two dialyses centers where it is done elusively. ...On my way out a gaggle of my female fans were gathered in wheelchairs at the front door to see me off. After goodbyes and warnings to drive carefully I headed home with a couple of shopping stops on the way. I had a grand noon meal at Wegmans consisting of a 1/2 chicken breast, steamed vegies and a kale salad. I had never eaten kale before and think I have discovered something! ....Keep tuned....more next time.
