Case Study: Unemployment in Nigeria As a graduate (chemist) and a nigerian, having being following the government for long, especially the federal character towards unemployment in Nigeria, I concur that the government herself knows no solution to it or probably ignore, to create more room for them in purloining the nigerian treasury. The Problem: Do you believe that people with unsuitable job in nigeria are more than those with none?. Majority of nigerians are looking for FG work, @ the recent immigration aptitude test, there was lot of bankers, teachers, lecturers, accountants that came with their own car to write the test. The major reason is that their current job wage doesnt commensurate with the economic reality of the nation, thereby requiring them to switch job. Where we are lost: There are jobs in Nigeria!!! Yes I mean it, unemploment is not our problem, bad economy is, in developed nations, there is no big deal for a graduate teaching in a secondary, primary or nursery school or other lower organisations in the country and earning 10,000 of whatever currency they spend provided he/she will be able to spend less than 7,000 of that currency on housing, feeding, transportation and clothing in a month. But in my glorious country (Nigeria) where you earn 150,000NGN/month and lives in a 3 Bedroom flat of 250,000NGN/month,@least 30,000NGN on transportation, @least 50,000NGN on food and 5,000NGN on clothing, definitely you will be looking for jobs of half a million salary, thereby increasing rate of unemployment. The average nigerian beliefs, if he could get a govt. job, things would turn better, yes its true but the questions are: How many of us is the govt. going to employ?Till when is it going to continues like this? What is/are the future plan/s?. We need to ask ourselves and get answers from those in authority. CAUSES: (Govt.) 1. The government have failed to diversify the nigerian economy 2. Petroleum products money being accrued by the FGN has been largely abused 3. The IGR of majority of states in nigeria is below their budget (imagine crude oil dry up today, most states in nigeria will close down tomorrow). 4. The local govt. that is the closest to the nigerian populace has been rendered useless. 5. The govt. keep pumping money into the nigerian market and increasing prices of commodities thereby causing multiplier effect on price of products, on the long run collecting back more than they subsidized. E.g imagine your monthly salary being increased by 50% and prices of what you use your money to buy increased by 75%. 6. The govt. Want to boost the economy and sustain corruption which is sending away investors. Solution(Govt.) 1. Give all the nigerian states ultimatum of two years in developing, exploring turning into money whatever resources they has or they risk merger with other states. 2. Local governments should create employment through whatever resources they has, if need be they borrow to develop and buy instruments and employment their youths. 3. Reduce the cost of governance at all levels 4. Erase state of origin and local govt. Of origin and let it be state of residence and local govt of residence to erase issue of ethnicity and tribalism and as for religious crisis I have a proposal for that but not needed here. 5. All unemployed graduates must be paid salary according to the minimum wage and increment must occur according to years of unemployment unless the unemployment is voluntarily which payment can be terminated. 6. Increase the value of the NGN by passing law on compulsory compliance of consumers on using Made in nigeria products and placing ban on importation of goods that same products are manufactured in nigeria with stiff penalty for defaulters 7. Decreasing corruption by making into law Steal a million loose a finger, steal 10M NGN loose a hand, steal up to 100M NGN loose both hand, steal a billion go to life imprisonment with hard labor and steal up to 10B NGN sentenced to death as u are capable/ willing to kill the nigerian economy. CAUSES&SOLUTION: (POPULACE) 1. Generally, Nigerian are die-hard strugglers, we endure too much e.g its only in nigeria you see someone writing jamb and waec up to 9 times, is it gonna give you certificate to good life till eternity? If you doubt me ask prof Dibu Ojerinde. 2. We all see unemployment as the problem whereas it is bad economy that is denying us food, shelter and clothing which are the basic needs of life. 3. We all see money as the solution whereas it only make the world go round. Earn enough to provide shelter, clothing and food for you and your responsibilities and live peacefully, earn more than that and get it into trouble. Remember; The more you has, the more irresponsible responsibilities you got. 5. Tell the govt. What you want collectively and get provide it. 6. Finally, if we keep keeping mute and keep spending our money on buying #2,500 nigerian navy, airforce, army, immigration e.t.c forms, definitely we are promoting our sufferness. Let us all contribute this money and hire buses to government houses,Aso Rock, National Assembly and States House of Assemblies and agitate for our needs and if need be we use brute force. Dont be afraid youths in others nations have done it and they won, the truth is they will kill some of us but in other way on the long run they are killing us gradually even if we dont, those that died in the immigration stampede, corpers been killed during election crisis and the daily Boko Haram killings are referrences. Let us all form coalition of nigerian youths irrespective of our statuses and make move for for total restructuring/ reforming of the nigerian state and not transforming from the era of stealing funds to missing funds. N.B: Grammarians should be calmed as this is not show for grammatical prowess nor spelling bee and economists should be warned because we are not talking theory here, we mean business and talking practice.
