Cases and cases of canned goods. This is a food bank worker’s view of food. Hundreds and hundreds of boxes unloaded off pallets, moved to the warehouse and finally the colorful contents of the boxes are laid out, row after brightly colored row on the distribution shelves. But mostly it is a world of cardboard – from the semi that brings it to our door, to the recycling truck that hauls the, now flat, boxes away. Today was Farmers Market day in Ocean Shores. No cardboard here – nothing but beautiful, colorful fruit and vegetables. All of a sudden the food bank workers cardboard nightmare is eclipsed by the beautiful food – the colorful food – the REAL food. Enjoy the pictures of our fresh farmer’s market food here at the shore. In an effort to bring more fresh food to our clients the Ocean Shores Food Bank has partnered with the Garden by the Sea, Community Garden to plant, tend and harvest fresh vegetables during our rather short growing season. Volunteers from Garden by the Sea and the food bank are working together to ensure that our neighbors in need, enjoy beautiful, colorful, and tasty food from our garden. If you would like to lend a hand (or, if you have excess produce from your own garden) – please drop by the Ocean Shores Food Bank any Tuesday morning between 10AM and 11AM.
