Casino project expected to revive Catskills town that once thrived on tourism- Monticello a village in Sullivan County (upstate New York) about 20 minutes away from where i live has been in a terrible economic slump but it is hoping that the $630 million Montreign Casino Resort project will create jobs and bring tourism. Decades ago, tourism in the area thrived until the hotel industry shut down, causing empty storefronts and a loss of jobs. State officials approved the new casino project last week, ending a long quest to bring gambling to the region.
