Casting was announced this morning for the fall 2014 Broadway premiere of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time on Broadway, the Olivier Award-winning Best New Play from the UK’s National Theatre. The Simon Stephens drama, adapted from Mark Haddons 2003 bestseller and staged by Marianne Elliott (with movement by Steven Hoggett), will star tyro actor Alexander Sharp, a soon-to-be Juilliard grad, in his Broadway debut. He plays brainy but odd 15-year old Christopher, suspected of killing his neighbor’s dog. His search for the real killer has consequences for lots of people (and, presumably, dogs). The show is slated to begin performances at the Barrymore Theatre on September 10, with an official opening October 5. Producers announced that 50-plus tickets at each performance will sell for $27. The Curious Incident cast includes Ian Barford (August: Osage County), Helen Carey (London Assurance), Francesca Faridany (The 39 Steps) and Enid Graham (The Constant Wife). Taylor Trensch (Matilda The Musical) will play Christopher at certain performances. The show opened in 2012 at the National and transferred to the West End, winning seven Oliviers in all. The top-shelf Broadway producing team is led by Stuart Thompson, Tim Levy for NT America, Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures Inc., Nick Starr and Chris Harper for NT Productions, with Bob Boyett, Roger Berlind, Scott M. Delman, Roy Furman, Glass Half Full Productions, Ruth Hendel, Jon B. Platt, Prime Number Group, Scott Rudin, Triple Play Broadway and The Shubert Organization. (Posted by Vintage Books & Anchor Books)
